Rixey Family Bible pdf

Catha Hall, a descendant of the Rixey family of Culpeper and Rappahannock Counties, has shared a priceless artifact with Rappahannock Historical Society. The Rixey family bible, owned by Samuel Rixey (1780-1866) has over 100 listings of family births, deaths, and marriages which took place between 1790 and 1870. Notable also are the many vital records of slave births and deaths recorded there. Slave names and family relationships are enumerated along with the sporadic notation beside a name of “sold.”

It is the hope of Mrs. Hall that this family record can be used by those who have connections to the enslaved people of the Rixey family to trace their family ancestry farther back then is usually possible. This volume is also a great resource for historical researchers, as so many governmental documents were destroyed in Culpeper County during the Civil War.
